Visit of the RNN Ile du Girard 2025

On Friday, 5 December 2025, Master’s 1 students visited the Ile du Girard National Nature Reserve in the northern Jura. Frédéric Topin, the chief conservationist, emphasised the renaturation works carried out at the confluence of the Doubs and Loue rivers. These ecological engineering operations were carried out in 2017-2018 to restore freedom to the rivers, which had been dammed in the 1960s to protect villages from flooding and gain agricultural land.

To improve their understanding of how the site has changed since the 1960s, the students used a sand model to simulate the different phases that have taken place. They then went to observe the Doubs-Loue confluence in the field.
