In this talk I will present background work on macroecology (abundance scaling) and wildlife monitoring using camera traps.\u00a0Surprisingly, some of the theoretical underpinnings used in both these fields are derived from simple gas\u00a0models used in physics. The talk will review\u00a0broad-scale patterns in population density across a diverse range of vertebrate\u00a0species. I will then describe recent work on using camera-traps,\u00a0a rapidly expanding field of research.
